The Counterbalance Ethos

Counterbalance bracelets are a commitment to action to mitigate climate change. By purchasing a bracelet, you are joining a community that is working towards living sustainably and minimizing our impact on the planet. As individuals, we can achieve climate action using our voices, reducing our own environmental footprint, and financing projects with Counterbalance. The Counterbalance ethos outlines the values to live by and actions to take.

The Counterbalance Ethos

6 Easy Steps for Climate Action

1. Reduce your Carbon Footprint

1. Always do your best to reduce your carbon footprint and be conscious of how your actions impact the environment. Prioritize eating plant based and reducing food waste. The top two climate solutions are Plant Rich Diets and Reduced Food Waste.

Favoring plant-based foods reduces demand, thereby reducing land clearing, fertilizer use, and greenhouse gas emissions. Choosing to decrease meat consumption and purchase locally grown food when available can help the world avoid over 78 gigatons of emissions.

Reducing food waste can avoid up to 102 gigatons of emission globally is currently 8% of global emissions. Generating public awareness and changing consumer behavior. We can avoid emissions from buying more than we can eat and avoid producing emissions from all the energy, resources, and money that went into producing, processing, packaging, and transporting food. Waste can come from rejecting food items with bumps, bruises, and discolorations, so remember to shop for imperfectly perfect fruits and veggies.

A few other ways we can reduce our carbon footprint are:

1. Using public transit, carpooling, biking, driving an electric vehicle*, or avoiding travel altogether with telepresence.

*Sometimes keeping your old car is better for the environment than purchasing a new electric one. Learn more.

2. Using LED lights, recycling* , and using a smart thermostat can help reduce carbon emissions at home.

*We understand that recycling is imperfect but it is one of the easy ways to be more climate-friendly, reduce both emissions and the extraction of virgin materials.

Wherever you are, wearing your Counterbalance can remind you to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in all aspects of your life so that together we can counterbalance climate change.

2. Vote

2. Vote. No matter what country you live in or political party you vote for, only support candidates with clear, actionable plans on climate change. One of the greatest powers we have is to unite towards meaningful legislation on climate change. We need to elect leaders who put planet above politics, choose people over profit, and cannot be paid off by the fossil fuel lobby.

3. Speak Up

3. Speak up. Talk to your friends, family and coworkers about climate change and the solutions that exist, and most importantly, why you care. How is a changing climate going to affect the living beings, places, and things you love most? You are the most persuasive person in your network both at home and work; not politicians, NGOs or advocacy groups. Together, we are a movement for change, change for a more sustainable, beautiful world. Remember to support companies that value protecting our planet and act to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
